Tips for Sardinia countryside trips
Visit unique places and beaches
Boat trips
Boat trips on sailing ships or motorboats are very popular. This way, you can visit unique places and beaches that cannot be reached by road. In the northern Sardinia area, we recommend these places: La Maddalena, sailing around the islands of Molara and Tavolara or along the coast from the port of Cala Gonone.
Alghero
Alghero is a historic coastal town in the northwest of the island, nicknamed "Little Barcelona" due to its Catalan influence. It is a popular tourist destination thanks to its beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, and vibrant culture. There are many beautiful beaches within about a 45-minute drive that are worth visiting.
The National Park Asinara
Asinara ((Parco Nazionale dell'Asinara) offers a completely different type of trip and experience, recommended for lovers of untouched nature and history. The park is located on an island off the northwest coast of Sardinia. More on wildasinarapark.com
Badesi
Badesi is a smaller town about 30 minutes drive away. It offers a wider range of services, a supermarket with a larger selection of groceries, and also a gas station. There is also a butcher where you can buy quality fresh meat. The undeniable advantage of Badesi is its long beach that stretches all the way to the town of Valledoria.
Castelsardo
The picturesque town of Castelsardo is located on a massive rocky massif on the northwest coast. The town is dominated by a castle of the same name from the 12th century, which has been newly renovated and offers a permanent exhibition of ancient fishing traps, boats, and baskets. Castelsardo is also known for its excellent restaurants serving mainly seafood dishes. They are often mentioned in Michelin guides.
Costa Paradiso
Costa Paradiso is one of the most sought-after recreational areas in northern Sardinia, sensitively set among beautiful rocks and endless greenery. This paradise coast will surely be appreciated by all lovers of nature, peace, and tranquility, who can relax here from the hustle and bustle of big cities and overcrowded tourist destinations. You will find charming small coves with bathing lakes, where you will be dazzled by crystal-clear water and rich underwater life. You can visit the three most famous beaches here.
Inland
If you want to take a break from the sea and sunbathing, you can head inland in the nearest surroundings, which will surely bring you many unique experiences and allow you to get to know Sardinia from another perspective. We recommend visiting the authentic town of Aggius, one of the oldest in the northern Sardinia area.
Isola Rossa
A charming village, that's about 20 minutes by a car from Costa Paradiso with a beautiful Spanish watchtower from the 16th century. The whole area is characterised by a reddish colour of the local granite rocks..
Santa Theresa Capo Testa
The town of Santa Teresa di Gallura, with a population of five thousand, is a renowned resort located on a rocky plateau about 40 meters above sea level. It lies on a small peninsula characterized by white granite rocks, beautiful sandy beaches, and crystal-clear sea.
